We live in an incredible time where information and knowledge are so readily available.
I am someone who invested over $100K and seven years of my life on my collegiate education [yes, it hurts me to say it]! And while I know that was valuable, I wonder what would have happened had I forgone that formal education and just learned skills from Google, YouTube, books, podcasts, and on the job experience. “Fake it ‘till you make it” is still something I whole-heartedly believe in; not like in a ‘Pretend you’re a doctor or lawyer when you’re really not’ sort of way, but as in a ‘Use some darn resourcefulness and just try’ kind of way.
Recently, I heard these wise words on a podcast from Nick Green, CEO of Thrive Market, “we have fear hardwired into us from generations of evolution because making a mistake in prehistoric society typically meant you were going to get eaten by a saber tooth tiger or rejected by your clan -- and then you’re dead. But today, it’s like we live in a video game where you have 10,000 lives; literally! If you mess up once, you can try again. If you make a mistake on your second try, you can try again and again and again. You can just keep coming back to the plate”. I love this so much because I feel like I’m living this right now, every day. I am often crippled by my fear of imperfection or failure and I love this comparison to a video game and having 10,000 lives. Its ok to mess up, or not be perfect or have a swing and a miss. But you know what’s not OK? Never trying. Putting off your dreams or believing a lie that you need to be something different or more than you are right now. All we have is just right now.
I have been so inspired by a handful of podcasts lately that I wanted to share my Top 5. What’s amazing is that these podcasts are like free education, free life coaching, free mentorship. I’ve taken so much away from these podcasts and I would love to know what your faves are as well!
This podcast immediately became my go-to listening material anytime I am driving and I have LOVED Julie’s guests. Julie has a background as a publicist and curates interviews with some of the most incredible powerhouse women, shares so much knowledge, and I feel like I have learned SO much from listening along with her – I actually signed up for one of her courses! [She is a coach as well].
Ok, so apparently I live under a rock? Not sure how I onlyjust came across the Skinny Confidential and the HIM & HER Podcast so recently but it’s fantastic. I love the banter between Lauryn and Michael, it reminds me of myself and Jay if we were to have a podcast, and their content covers all of the things; from boob jobs, to skincare to entrepreneurialism. Basically, everything you need to know in life.
My girl! Amber-Lee is a girlfriend of mine in Vancouver, and I absolutely love her podcast and watching her [and listening] as she kills it in her biz and on her show! She has become wildly successful since we met almost two years ago [coincidence? JK] and she has interviewed some of the most amazing guests. She keeps it real like a diva and I love her for it. She’s just fun and will have you laughing and inspired all at once – definitely check her out.
Ok, this one is a new one for me, but I already feel like it’s a great resource for precisely the topics that I am interested in [women, work, and worth]. This is like free education in modern-day business, except it’s better because is conversational and entertaining. These ladies are in Atlanta, and I love their perspective and getting out of my own bubble to better understand business and the world from their vantage point.
That’s my current list! What are you loving right now? I’d love to hear what you’re listening to!
Happy listening, learning and growing.
